NRC resumed operations in Sudan in 2020, providing humanitarian assistance, protection, and durable solutions. Our country programme integrates all of NRC’s six core competencies (camp management, education, ICLA, livelihoods, shelter, and WASH), and provides a rapid response capacity (including for the recent refugee emergency in eastern Sudan), and thematic capacities for cash and markets-based approaches, advocacy, digital modes of assistance, and co-leading various technical and strategic coordination platforms.
Role Specific Information
The purpose of the Education Coordinator position is to implement delegated Education project portfolio activities. The following is a brief description of the role.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Line management of Education project field staff in SK
2. Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures and awareness of NRC global and regional strategies
3. Identify opportunities for cash-based and market-based interventions where relevant
4. Support staff to implement quality and timely programmes
5. Responsible for the implementation of strategic plans and the management of day-to-day project activities including staff, budget and assets in Education SK
6. Provide technical and operational support and oversight to project staff on EiE and youth programming, including budget management
7. Plan, monitor and evaluate Education activities in SK; ensure SOPs are in place and operational needs are met
8. M&E including completing GORS Output/Outcome monthly reporting
9. Provide leadership & support in design and rollout of NRC’s Education programming in SK
10. Coordinate Education activities in SK in line with strategies, proposals, log frames, work plans, budgets and donor requirements, ensuring high technical quality
11. Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and host communities in line with SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards
12. Representation and coordination in internal and external forums on behalf of NRC Education (Cluster, Sector or Working Groups ) along with other NGOs/UN agencies
13. Liaise and collaborate with relevant government/local authorities and other key stakeholders
14. Provide supervision, motivation, and support to the Education team in SK, including orientation, training, and Performance Management
15. Ensure capacity building of project staff and the transfer of key skills; support capacity building of teachers and other education personnel
16. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly and final narrative reports
17. Any other task relevant to the position as requested by Supervisor or Technical Dotted-Line Manager Education PDM.
Our Ideal Candidate:
• 4 yrs Experience working in Education implementation in a humanitarian/ early recovery context
• Solid computer skills, including MS Word, Outlook and Excel
• Willingness to travel regularly to the field including remote locations
• Fluency Arabic (written and verbal) and good working English (written and verbal).
• Knowledge of Education context in Sudan required;
• Knowledge of South Kordofan or the Kordofans context has added value
• Knowledge of needs/challenges of displacement and conflict-affected refugee, host community, returnee and IDP children preferred
• Experience with youth programming and linkages to livelihoods is an asset but not essential
• Experience with EiE and formal education in a humanitarian context preferred
• Experience working with children and educators required
• Experience liaising with multiple stakeholders including government, donor, UN and NGO partners required
• Experience with strategic development, including proposal and budget creation preferred
• Experience with project/programme start-up an asset
• Experience managing a field team required
• Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards is required
• Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred;
• significant experience in the field of Education, PSS or Child Protection considered in lieu
